Summer Berry Smoothie Bowls

Jump to recipe

Smoothie bowls make me happy.  Especially in the summer when it is hot up here in New England.  I feel like everyone knows how to make a smoothie bowl…throw a few things in a blender, put things you like on top, blah, blah, blah.  I’m still going to post this recipe though, because I feel like it.  The key to a good smoothie bowl is to have a thick smoothie as the base.  How do you make your smoothie thick?  Frozen bananas!  I actually did not have a frozen bananas the day I made these smoothie bowls at my mom’s house and I was a little sad about it (nice going, mom…just kidding, but seriously never let it happen again).  Here is a little life hack for you: don’t let your bananas go bad, when they start to get a little too ripe, peel them, then cut them into bite sized pieces, pop them into a container and freeze them.  Then you will have frozen bananas ready for smoothies and nice cream when you need them…brilliant, I know.

My warning about smoothies and smoothie bowls is that they often have more calories than you’d think.  This one has about 450 calories per serving, so it is breakfast. I have seen so many people with a smoothie in one hand and a bagel in the other, and then they wonder why they are gaining weight.  If smoothies don’t fill you up, don’t eat them.  But, if they do fill you up, try this one.

I know there are 3 smoothie bowls in this picture, but the recipe below is for just one 🙂

Happy eating and best health,
